The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly in the running to sign Bo Bichette, a highly sought-after free agent, according to a report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post. This comes amidst rumors linking Bichette to several other big-market teams, including the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays.
Bichette, who will turn 28 in March, has spent the last seven seasons with the Blue Jays. He had a career-best .311 batting average last season, along with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs in 139 games. The Phillies have already made a significant move this offseason by re-signing Kyle Schwarber to a five-year, $150 million contract, but adding Bichette could potentially impact their ability to re-sign catcher J.T. Realmuto, who is projected to sign for two years and $32 million.
To accommodate Bichette, the Phillies might need to make some infield adjustments. Bichette primarily plays shortstop, but he has expressed willingness to move to second base, a position currently held by Bryson Stott, who is under team control for two more seasons. Stott had a solid 2025 season, earning eight outs above average, but he was less reliable than Bichette, with a .257 batting average and a .225 BA against left-handed pitchers.
Another potential candidate for a move is third baseman Alec Bohm, who is under team control for one more season. Bohm's production dropped in 2025, and he is seeking a bounce-back campaign in 2026. The Phillies could consider trading Stott or Bohm to a team in need of infield help, allowing them to potentially sign Bichette and strengthen their lineup. This move could be a strategic response to their disappointing NLDS loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers last fall.
