HTC's VIVERSE Immersive Social Platform Hits 1 Million Monthly Active Users: A Web-Based Success Story
HTC's VIVERSE, an immersive social platform, has reached a significant milestone by attracting 1 million monthly active users. This achievement is notable, considering the platform's relatively recent launch and its web-based approach, which allows users to access it on various devices, including flatscreens and VR headsets. The platform's popularity is further highlighted by a student hackathon, where participants showcased their creative talents in immersive storytelling, games, and social experiences.
The Hackathon Showcase
The hackathon saw students from 40 schools compete in three categories: Immersive Storytelling, Games, and Social Experiences. The winners were:
- Immersive Storytelling:

HTC's WebXR Partnership
To further enhance the platform's accessibility, HTC has partnered with Open Brush, an immersive art tool. This partnership enables artists to share their 3D artwork easily, making it accessible to a wider audience. Open Brush now offers one-click sharing to VIVERSE, allowing users to view immersive art on various devices, including VR headsets.
Challenges and Future Outlook
Despite the platform's success, HTC faces challenges in creating engaging content for different devices. The platform's top content shows a lack of VR-specific experiences, suggesting that VR usage is not yet significant. However, the integration with Open Brush is expected to bring more immersive art to the platform, benefiting both creators and users. As VIVERSE continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how it addresses the challenge of catering to diverse user preferences and modalities.
