Kolkata residents, brace yourselves! The city is gearing up for the Portathon on December 7, and it's time to plan your commute. The Kolkata Police have issued a traffic advisory, revealing road closures and restrictions to ensure a smooth and safe event. From 4:00 am to 1:00 pm, or until the program concludes, get ready for some major changes on the roads.
The Commissioner of Police, Manoj Kumar Verma, has the authority to enforce these measures under the Motor Vehicles Act, Calcutta Police Act, and West Bengal Traffic Regulations Act. The focus is on keeping everyone safe and facilitating the event's progress. Here's the lowdown on what to expect:
Bridge and Road Closures:
- The 2nd Hooghly Bridge will see restricted traffic flow, with no vehicles allowed from the bifurcation towards Hastings down ramp or from Howrah via 11 Furlong Gate and Ghorapass.
- Major roads like C.G.R. Road, D.H. Road, Satya Doctor Road, G.R. Road, Clyed Row, St. Georges Gate Road, Khidderpore Road, Alipore Road, AJC Bose Road, New Road, Dufferin Road, Casuarina Avenue, Red Road (north bound), Lovers Lane, Hospital Road, Bardhaman Road, Garden Reach Flyover, and CGR Road will be affected.
Kolkata Maidan Area:
- Roads in the Maidan area, including Khidderpore Road, Casuarina Avenue, Queensway, Red Road, Bardhaman Road, Garden Reach Flyover, and CGR Road, will be off-limits to vehicles from 4:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Additional Restrictions:
- A.J.C Bose Road will allow west-bound traffic from the Belvedere Road crossing, except for vehicles heading to the 2nd Hooghly Bridge or St. Georges Gate Road/Strand Road.
- East-bound traffic on CGR Road will be suspended at the Satya Doctor Road crossing.
- South-bound traffic from St. Georges Gate Road/Clyed Row crossing will be restricted.
- West-bound vehicles on Khidderpore Road won't be able to head towards Hastings crossing.
- The Hastings ramp will be reserved for devotees only.
