Diogo Moreira, the reigning Moto2 World Champion, is gearing up for his rookie MotoGP season with the LCR Honda team. He's been training with the Marquez brothers, Marc and Alex, and says he's learned a lot from their mentorship. Moreira steps up to the MotoGP class this year, joining forces with Marc Marquez, the reigning MotoGP World Champion, and Alex Marquez, the MotoGP runner-up. This trio of champions has provided Moreira with the perfect training partners for his rookie season.
Moreira shared his thoughts on the preparation for the upcoming season during the LCR Honda season launch. He expressed his readiness to begin, stating, 'At the end, I think we are ready to start this season.' Moreira and his team have been working tirelessly over the winter, training extensively. Despite a brief one-week break after the Valencia race, Moreira feels prepared to tackle the challenges ahead.
'We made a very good job this winter, we trained a lot,' Moreira said. 'I think after Valencia, the last race, we stopped only one week, so I think we are ready to start.'
The Brazilian racer had his first taste of MotoGP at the Valencia test last November and returned to the track in Sepang for the Shakedown test. During this test, Moreira made significant improvements, enhancing his best lap time by 1.6 seconds between the second and third days. He described the experience as 'super-good,' acknowledging the progress made in Malaysia.
'I think we made a very good job these three days in Malaysia,' Moreira said. 'But at the end, we need to keep working on the new bike, try to understand more where is the limit. I think we are ready to [go] to Thailand.'
Moreira's journey in MotoGP began with the Valencia test, and he's now set to continue his learning curve in Thailand, with the support of his experienced training partners.
